AGI, Agenzia Giornalistica Italia, is an Italian news agency.[1]

Foundation and history

AGI was founded in 1950 by Giulio de Marzio and Walter Prosperetti. It has been controlled by ENI since 1965. Its main office is in Rome, with editorial offices located in 15 provincial capitals across the country. It also has a foreign office in Brussels at the European Union. Every day, AGI broadcasts news on a wide range of topics of interest (politics, economy, finance, crime, entertainment, etc.). Its news is disseminated not only in Italian but also in English, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Since 2016, it has also been broadcasting an online news program.

Repositioning of AGI

Between 2016 and 2017, AGI implemented a transformation and repositioning plan among the content factories in Italy. This plan is led by a renewed management: since 2016, Mauro Gilardi has been the new administrative and personnel manager, Riccardo Luna is the new responsible director, and Marco Pratellesi is the co-director. In 2017, the Board of Directors confirmed Massimo Mondazzi as president, with a new appointment for Salvatore Ippolito as CEO. Mario Sechi was the agency's director from July 1, 2019, to March 6, 2023, preceded by Riccardo Luna and former co-director Marco Pratellesi.

Governance 2020

On September 11, 2020, AGI appointed Lucia Calvosa as the chair of the Board of Directors and Giuseppe Macchia as CEO.
