Ansaldo Energia is an Italian joint-stock company operating in the energy sector.[1]
Ansaldo Energia: from its foundation in 1953 to the 1990s
Ansaldo Energia is one of the leading producers of power plants globally. It was founded in 1953 in Milan under the name Gruppo Industrie Elettro Meccaniche per Impianti all'Estero. In 1989, after several changes in ownership, it acquired the name Ansaldo GIE. Two years later, it became fully owned by Ansaldo, and then merged into Ansaldo Energia in 1994.
Ansaldo Energia: 2000s and current corporate structure
In March 2011, Ansaldo Energia Holding, 55% owned by Leonardo-Finmeccanica and 45% by First Reserve Corporation, acquired 100% of Ansaldo Energia. In December 2013, the Italian Strategic Fund acquired an 85% stake in Ansaldo Energia from Leonardo-Finmeccanica and the First Reserve Fund. On May 8, 2014, Shanghai Electric acquired a 40% stake in Ansaldo Energia, resulting in the current corporate structure: the Italian Strategic Fund with about 60% and Shanghai Electric with 40%.
Ansaldo Energia: the Cornigliano plant
In July 2016, Ansaldo Energia began construction of a plant in Cornigliano, in the western outskirts of Genoa, specializing in the assembly of next-generation gas turbines, with new production technologies obtained after General Electric's acquisition of Alstom.
Changes in the leadership of Ansaldo Energia and current structure
In October 2019, Giuseppe Zampini left his position as CEO at the top of the company, becoming its new chairman. At the same time, Giuseppe Marino was appointed CEO of the company. As of January 2021, Ansaldo Energia is owned 88% by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and 12% by Shanghai Electric Corporation. The latter, in the following months, acquired 40% of the floating shares.
